Boeing Dreamliner to offer more long haul comfort

The Boeing 787 is being touted as the future of long haul air travel due to the long distances it can achieve compared to existing aircraft in its class. There are also a number of reasons why the flights might be more comfortable.

The cabin is pressurized to a lower altitude than conventional jets, lessening the effects of being high in the air, such as headaches and fatigue, because of a 6% improvement in oxygen absorbed by the body at 6,000 feet compared with 8,000 feet, according to a Boeing spokeswoman. Studies show big windows help reduce motion sickness, Boeing said, and LED lighting that can simulate sunrise, for example, can help ease jet-lag effects.

A new aircraft stability system that will make for smoother rides in turbulence is still only partially functional in the five 787s in service, but an updated software load planned within weeks will improve the ride even more, according to the aircraft maker. Fuel efficiency and emissions are 20% better than the Boeing 767, a similarly sized jet.

If you are traveling long haul then dont forget to take out decent travel insurance for over 85s to ensure you are well covered in case of emergency.

Air Asia X from Malaysia to NZ

The Christchurch earthquake has not affected travel between Malaysia and New Zealand according to Air Asia X chief executive Azran Osman-Rani.

The airline’s head said there was good forward loads in both directions with thousands of Kiwis and Malaysians travelling between the two countries during the first two months of the year.

“Kiwis have taken advantage of our low fares to fly to Malaysia and beyond to destinations like Thailand, India, France and Britain,” Mr Azran said.

“We’re getting good support from Auckland and Wellington travelers as well as people throughout the South Island.”

Mr Azran was recently in Christchurch where he was able to visit the carrier’s newest destination as well as show his support to the community by participating in a local marathon.

If you travel to NZ ensure you have taken out good travel insurance over 75 for cover.

While Air Asia X continues to boast its operations into Christchurch, Air NZ chief executive Rob Fyfe recently announced that the Christchurch and Japan quakes have shaken the airline’s operations and it will not be making money during the first six months of the year.

5 Reasons Not to Fly British Airways

British Airways are back in the black, whoopee! The creaking British airline was once the king of the skies but it now faces stiff competition from around the world and it’s now its a bit rubbish

Here are five reason to avoid BA:

1. Your mother is your cabin crew

We all love our mums but would you really want her bullying you for the 12 hour flight to Hong Kong? BA cabin crew are mainly made up of 40-50 something females who’s job is to make you feel rubbish and inadequate, particularly in Economy class where their service is bordering on what an inmate would expect from a prison guard. The are frumpy, grumpy and greedy too (see point 2).

2. Cabin crew strikes

BA cabin crew have disrupted the plans of countless travellers through their greed and continual high expectation of free flights and a wage that’s way above the average for their profession. Book BA and then have weeks or months of anxiety wondering if your flight will actually take off.

3. The Food is rubbish

BA’s food in economy is absolutely disgusting. Its always cold and served with the sort of contempt one might expect from the last meal for someone on death-row.

4. The Chief Executive is annoying

Willie whatever his name is comes only second to Michael Ryan’ in terms of annoyance. His face is sneering and self important and he has just paid himself a inflation busting 12% payrise.

5. BA charges you for seat selection

BA are the only major airline who charge for seat selection, no other airline does this! Can you believe this?
