"The economy in Canada is very robust," Sean Durfy said after delivering a speech to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. "We have no plans to reduce any capacity. We're going to continue to increase capacity." Several major U.S. airlines said this week they planned to slow their growth and cut costs as a means to deal with high fuel prices. Crude oil closed just above $88 a barrel on Tuesday and has flirted with the $100 a barrel mark in recent weeks. Southwest Airlines Co., which WestJet is modelled after, announced Tuesday its capacity would grow by four to five per cent, down from its initial forecast of an eight per cent increase. |
